Disenrollment

Students are disenrolled if they graduate from their program or leave TH Köln for other reasons. Their disenrollment ('Exmatrikulation') terminates their studies and membership at TH Köln.

Reasons for disenrollment

+ Disenrollment request

Students can request to be disenrolled at any time during their studies. The earliest possible date of disenrollment is the date the request is submitted. It is not possible to backdate the disenrollment.

Disenrollment requests are submitted through TH Köln's campus management system (CaMS) and are processed by the Office of Student Services as quickly as possible.

+ Automatic disenrollment due to missing re-registration

Students are automatically disenrolled at the end of the current semester if they have not  re-registered for the upcoming semester, e.g. if they have not paid the semester fees or if the re-registration is blocked ("Rückmeldesperre").

+ Disenrollment due to graduation

Students who have successfully completed their program are automatically disenrolled at the end of the current semester.

Additional information is available in the information for graduating students

+Automatic disenrollment due to irreversibly failed examination

Students who have irreversibly failed an examination (i.e. with no option to repeat) are automatically disenrolled.

Notification of disenrollment and certificate of disenrollment

After their disenrollment, students can download their notification of disenrollment ("Exmatrikulationsbescheid") in the "Certificates" section in CaMS. This notification includes the reason of disenrollment as well as information on legal remedies.

Additionally, students have access to a certificate of disenrollment ("Exmatrikulationsbescheinigung") which details during which period they were enrolled at TH Köln as well as the date of disenrollment.

Furthermore, all disenrolled students receive a pension insurance certificate.

Disenrolled students are notified by email to their university email account that their status has changed and that the documents are available for download.

After your disenrollment

+ Can I still access my university email account, CaMS, PSSO etc. after my disenrollment?

You will be notified by email several times that your campusID will expire soon. Once it has expired you will no longer be able to use any IT resources linked to your campusID, such as ILIAS, VPN.

However, there are exceptions: You will be able to access CaMS, PSSO and your university email account (smail) for another six months after your disenrollment.

After your disenrollment, please continue to check your university email account. You will continue to receive information from TH Köln that may still be of interest to you.

We recommend to save and print all certificates available, particularly your certificate of disenrollment and your pension insurance certificate, for future use.

+ Can I get a refund of the semester fees I paid for the upcoming semester?

If you already paid your semester fees for the upcoming semester but were disenrolled during the current semester, you can request a refund of the semester fees.

If you already paid your semester fees for the upcoming semester and are also re-registered for the upcoming semester you can request a refund of the semester fee if you disenrolled before the official start of the lecture period and if you did not take any examinations or coursework during this semester.

If you disenrolled after the official start of the lecture period but still during the first two months of the semester, you can request a refund of your public transport fee (VRS and NRW semester ticket). Please get in touch with TH Köln's General Students' Committee (AStA - www.asta.th-koeln.de/semesterticket/) for more information and to request your refund.
