Please read the FAQ carefully.

+ When can I register for the Buddy Program?

Registration for the summer semester usually runs from the beginning of January to the end of March, and for the winter semester from the beginning of July to the end of September.

+ How can I participate in the Buddy Program?

  • In the first step, you fill out our online form.
  • Then we assign you to mixed Buddy groups. The Buddy groups usually consist of several TH Buddies and several Mentees. In the Buddy groups, students can organize their exchange individually. We try to take into account your stated interests, but we cannot guarantee this.

+ When can I register as a Mentee?

If you are new to TH Köln and are studying with us as an International Degree-Seeking Student or as an Exchange Student, you can register as a Mentee for the Buddy Program.

+ When can I register as a TH Buddy?

TH Buddies can be German as well as international students. You should already be studying at TH Köln for at least one or two semesters, be interested in intercultural peer-to-peer exchange and enjoy getting to know people. Good English language skills are desirable. Other languages are an advantage.

+ What are my tasks as a TH Buddy?

Your tasks include supporting the Mentees in your Buddy group together with the other TH Buddies in your group. Here, initial contact, support in Cologne and the surrounding area, at TH Köln, and help with enrollment and city registration are particularly important. Of course, joint leisure activities can also be on the program.

+ How much time should be invested in the program?

During the semester, you should schedule approximately two to three hours per week.

+ Can I have my participation as a TH Buddy recognized as social volunteering?

Yes, if you actively participate in the program, you will receive a certificate of participation. You can use this certificate for your semester abroad (PROMOS scholarship) or your next application to prove your intercultural competence and your commitment. Please read the requirements for a certificate of participation.

+ Can I also support several Mentees as a TH Buddy?

Yes, you can, as we work with Buddy groups instead of tandems.

+ What activities can I do with my Buddy group?

You can find more inspiration on our site Leisure.

+ Who can I contact if I have questions or problems?

You can email us at any time: buddyprogramm@th-koeln.de
