Environment & Resources Management with focus on Latin America & the Caribbean (ENREM Double Degree)

The Double Degree Master's Program "Environment and Resources Management (ENREM)" qualifies professionals who understand how to manage the environment and natural resources at both local and global levels. They contribute their professional experience and regional knowledge to learn from each other and work collaboratively in an intercultural context.

A cooperation of the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí (UASLP), Mexico und the TH Köln – University of Applied Sciences, Germany

Students receive two master's degrees:

  • "Maestría en Ciencias Ambientales", issued by UASLP
  • "Master of Science Natural Resources Management and Development", issued by TH Köln – University of Applied Sciences

Graduates of this program are capable of analyzing and solving complex environmental issues within their specific socio-cultural and political contexts, considering the technical and economic potentials of both the Latin American and German regions.

The Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region is diverse, encompassing numerous landscapes and ecosystems. Economic development and social and indigenous history are heterogeneous. The region faces various challenges, including climate change, water resources, and natural disasters.

Moreover, population growth, urbanization, and industrialization necessitate effective environmental policies and programs to sustainably manage natural resources. Specialists and leaders with integrated and transdisciplinary approaches in management, economics, technology, and governance are required.

For bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Germany and Latin American countries, experts familiar with the culture, language, and politics of both sides, possessing intercultural communication skills, are also needed.

The international Master's program ENREM offers numerous advantages:

  • Two degrees in two years: Graduates receive two Master's degrees, one from each university.
  • Professional expertise and knowledge expansion: ENREM students can examine environmental issues and solutions in Latin America from a local perspective within the "Programa Multidisciplinario de Posgrado en Ciencias Ambientales" (PMPCA) with a global component from the Faculty of Spatial Development and Infrastructure Systems. During the Master's thesis, the implementation is then contextualized in a different Latin American country. Students benefit from the strengths of both universities, expanding their academic and methodological horizons.
  • Personal development: Experiencing two different cultures and university systems enhances personal and interpersonal skills, as well as intercultural competence.
  • International networking: Integration into the regular study programs of both universities makes it easier for students to connect with international peers. Furthermore, they become part of the alumni networks of both institutions, providing numerous opportunities for cross-border careers and establishing a global contact network of their own.
